Promises
Parents bringing their child to the
baptismal font at Shepherd of the Valley make a series
of promises. These promises are:
to faithfully bring their child to the
services of God's house
to teach their child the Lord's
Prayer, the Creed, and the 10 commandments
to place in their hands the holy
scriptures
to provide for the instruction of
their child in the Christian faith
Goals
At Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran
Church, the Celebration of Baptism Program begins at age
one and continues through grade 6. The goals of this
program are:
To help children and their parents
remember and celebrate their baptisms. Knowing they are
baptized, they have the assurance that they have been
adopted into the Lord’s family.
To enable parents to enact their baptismal vows with
their children at least annually.
To provide a setting for parent/child interaction with
baptism and God’s grade in Jesus Christ as the focus.
To teach both children and adults about baptism in an
experiential way.
To touch parents, through their children, with the
Gospel of Jesus Christ here at Shepherd of the Valley.
