Pastor Paul on Our Vision

Pastor Paul Harrington Retires
Ministry as SOTV’s Pastor Emeritus Concludes June 30, 2013

Pastor Paul Harrington and his wife Margaret will be at all worship services on June 29 & 30 to meet and greet in the narthex.

Once a young boy asked Pastor Paul what “emeritus” meant. Pastor Paul responded by saying he really didn’t know, but it sounded pretty painful!

It’s been more than five years since Pastor Paul retired from his role as senior pastor and became Pastor Emeritus (by the way, “emeritus” is an honorary title, acknowledging the career of the person who carries it). During those years he has served SOTV part-time. The role has afforded him the freedom to take time away from the ministry when he wished it and also to serve as part-time campus pastor at Luther Seminary. His work at the seminary concluded in December, 2012. June 30 will bring his full retirement from SOTV.

The congregation of SOTV, with its church council, is deeply appreciative of the long and dedicated ministry of Pastor Paul. After his retirement, he and Margaret will still be members of SOTV and plan to participate in the life of the church. However, Pastor Paul will no longer conduct official pastoral acts on behalf of SOTV, including weddings, funerals, baptisms, pastoral care, and regular worship services. We ask that you please pray for and support Pastor Paul and Margaret during this transition and respect their time as they enjoy a well-deserved retirement and explore new ventures.

Pastor Paul will preach the weekend of June 22-23 at all worship services. After worship on Sunday, June 23, the church will hold a special program at 12:10 pm to honor his years of service and wish him and Margaret a wonderful and fruitful retirement.
