No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted.  ~Aesop

Meals on Wheels depends upon volunteers from communities of faith and companies all over the community to home-deliver meals every week day between 11:00 and noon to seniors, persons with disabilities or chronic illnesses and those needing a temporary respite while recovering from surgery who are nutritionally at risk and unable to prepare their own meals but want to live independent lives in their own homes.

Meals on Wheels helps:

  • Alleviate Hunger & Maintain Health by ensuring that the homebound in our communities receive nourishment. Each meal typically meets one-third of a person’s daily nutritional requirement and includes bread, dessert (ex: cake or fruit), milk, meat, vegetables and potatoes

  • Allow Independence by helping people remain in their own homes, where they would prefer to be

  • Provide an Affordable Option when compared to the costs of a nursing home or assisted-living facility (meals cost clients approximately $5/day);

  • Prevent Isolation through contact and connection every week day, thanks to the volunteers delivering meals

  • Provide Peace-of–Mind to caregivers and family members who aren’t able to be with their loved ones all the time.

SOTV has been a part of this valuable community outreach ministry for many years and we invite you to be a volunteer driver on the 4th Thursday of each month.

There are 41 local neighborhood Meals on Wheels programs located throughout metropolitan Minneapolis/St. Paul.  Each program serves a specific geographic area; ours being part of northern Dakota County serving Apple Valley, Eagan, Burnsville and Savage.

Each time you deliver takes about an hour, with meal pick-up at 10:45 at Faith Covenant Church in Burnsville. You are welcome to bring your kids because the clients love to see children.  Contact Bonnie Melzarek at 952/223-2468 or bonmel@lightblast.net
