You can register for one at a time or all of them—registration forms are available at church or can be downloaded at www.sotv.org, or register online. Your group will eat lunch at SOTV, head out to serve in the metro area, and be back at church by around 3:00pm (groups that attend worship and do their 3-for-1 sermon notes, but complete their projects on a different day will be free to leave after worship at noon).

a High School Hangout

Wednesdays 8:00-9:15 PM throughout the school year

Meet in the Shepherd’s Room for snacks, games, singing, conversation, prayer, bible study, and time to unwind and recharge mid-week. These informal gatherings are the perfect place to connect with church friends, invite others, and get to know some new people. Come check it out! We are also looking for a few additional adult volunteers to work with this excellent group! Contact Aaron Fuller (952-985-7362 or aaron.fuller@sotv.org) if you are interested in learning more.

PBS (Panera Before School)

Mondays when school is in session at 6:30 AM

What a great way to start your week—time to check in with faith friends, read a bit of scripture, and pray (not to mention enjoy a tasty breakfast treat). Pastor Randy and other youth staff will meet you in the early mornings at the Apple Valley Panera (off Cedar and County 42), and we guarantee you will make it to school on time, perky as can be.

No school this Monday, January 18! So...sleep in and meet us at noon at Pardon My French on Cliff Road in Eagan. Contact someone on the youth staff if you need some transportation assistance.

H.S. Small Groups
Are you passionate about the environment? Or do you enjoy talking about faith and life with other teenagers? Want to get some people together to serve in our area? High school small groups come in all shapes and sizes, and they form with help from youth staff to match groups of friends or youth with common interests with adult leaders. Check out a group that is already meeting (they love to welcome new people) or talk to a youth staff person about starting something brand new! Current groups include:

HIPPIES (Hopeful Informed People Protecting Irreplaceable Ecological Systems)
A "green" group of teens who are living out their faith by caring for creation. If this sounds cool to you, check it out or contact Bob MacDonald: 952-431-3681 / rmacdonald@spencerstuart.com. HIPPIES meet every other Wednesday 6-7pm--look for them in the entryway to the Main Office at SOTV.

PEACE JAM
Do you think it is unfair that there are people who have no place to call "home?" If you would like to meet with other high schoolers who agree and who want to do something about it, Peace Jam could be the group for you! They are passionate and committed to putting faith and good ideas into action. Contact Heidi Springmeyer or 651-322-7530 for more info, or just drop by to check it out: meetings are twice/month on Monday nights from 5:15-6:15 pm.

U.R.L. (Unwind, Relax, and Learn)

Wednesdays from 8:00pm- 9:00pm during the school year starting September 23rd.  Meet in the Shepherd Room for snacks, games, singing, conversation, and time to unwind and recharge mid-week.  These informal gatherings are the perfect place to connect with church friends, invite others, and get to know some new people.  Stop by and check it out!  Contact: Pam Geddes, 952-985-7367 or pam.geddes@sotv.org

The SOTV Lutheran Church Scholarship will once again be given in 2010. The SOTV Scholarship Committee will be awarding up to 4 scholarships in 2010 with a minimum award of $500. The scholarship is open to congregation members demonstrating financial need, who are enrolled in or planning to enrolling post secondary education/training. Applications are due to Beth Karlson in the church office on March 15th, 2010.

Summer 2010 Trips

There are still openings in many summer trips! Take a look at the Summer Trip booklet (available online, at the Welcome Center, and in the Youth Office) and stop in to see Barb Schulz to register for a trip or get your name on the waiting list.

Fundraising and Scholarships Available for Summer Trips

Do not let a lack of funds prevent you from going on a summer trip! There are a variety of ways to earn money toward your registration fees; learn more about how you can raise money—or sign up for fundraising hours—the evening of October 4. Parents are essential in making fundraising work (and also earn money toward their sons’ or daughters’ trips). Please contact Pam Geddes if you are interested in helping organize fundraising opportunities and with all fundraising-related questions.

Justice for All: Youth Homelessness

January 10, noon-3pm—bring a bag lunch!
Cost: $5 (to be donated to local service agencies)

There are over 250 homeless people in Dakota County, and half of them are under the age of 21. From 12:30-3PM, participate in many interactive sessions led by local professionals, learn about homelessness in our area and the effects stable housing has on young people, participate in a poverty simulation, learn how you can help, prepare sandwiches for homeless people, pray together, and much more! Students are encouraged to attend with a parent or caring adult. Register sing the Middle School or High School Events form or online at www.sotv.org. Deadline is January 3. (This may be a HYPE event for some 7th & 8th grade small groups; in that case, individual registration is not necessary.)
