MIDDLE SCHOOL

Middle School Friday Nights
One Friday night each month during the school year middle school students arrive in droves to participate in a fun activity—everything from snow tubing to movie-watching to packing food at Feed My Starving Children. These events are the perfect time to hang out with friends from confirmation, meet new people, or invite kids you know from school. You can register for one at a time or all of them—registration forms are available at church and at www.sotv.org.

Sledfest 2009: Friday, January 9  7:00-10:00 PM  Cost: $15
This year we will meet at SOTV and head to the icy tubing hill at Afton Alps. Dress well, because the hot cocoa can only go so far to warm your toes. Registration limited to the first 75 tubers.

Ski Retreat at Welch Village: Friday-Sunday, January 23-25
Hear the news? Welch Village is opening 10 new runs this winter! Get lodging at the bottom of the hill, transportation, meals, and lift tickets for $190 with ski/board rental or $130 if you have your own gear. Registration limited to 25 girls and 25 boys. A $50 deposit will hold your spot.

H.S. Student Leadership Opportunities
YOU ARE NEEDED! There are so many great opportunities for high school students to lead and serve at Shepherd of the Valley—everything from using your musical gifts in worship to working with a confirmation small group—the hardest part is deciding which one(s) to choose! Wonder where you might fit? Talk to Katie Heilman or download a student leadership application to see some options. Turn it in as soon as possible (by the first day of school for programs that start in the fall) so we can get you connected with the right people.

H.S. Small Groups
Are you passionate about the environment? Or do you enjoy talking about faith and life with other teenagers? Want to get some people together to serve in our area? High school small groups come in all shapes and sizes, and they form with help from youth staff to match groups of friends or youth with common interests with adult leaders. Check out a group that is already meeting (they love to welcome new people) or talk to a youth staff person about starting something brand new! Current groups include:

HIPPIES Environmental group: Contact Bob MacDonald: 952-431-3681 / rmacdonald@spencerstuart.com.

Heart of Worship Band: Rehearse and lead worship for high school and congregational gatherings. Contact Brian Bremer: 952-465-6530 / brianmbremer@gmail.com or Matt Hecht: 612-989-0889 /matthew.hecht@thrivent.com

ALL YOUTH: 6th-12th Grade

Fundraising and Scholarships
Do not let a lack of funds prevent you from going on a summer trip! There are a variety of ways to earn money toward your registration fees; learn more about how you can raise money—or sign up for fundraising hours—the evening of October 5. Parents are essential in making fundraising work (and also earn money toward their sons’ or daughters’ trips). Please contact Pam Geddes if you are interested in helping organize fundraising opportunities and with all fundraising-related questions.
