Celebration of Baptism

Shepherd of the Valley (SOTV) celebrates the Sacrament of Baptism every second weekend of the month during regular worship services.  We also offer a separate baptism service for families the third weekend of the month at 12:15 pm.

TO SCHEDULE: Please contact Merilu Narum at (952) 985-7326 or to schedule your baptism with the church one to two months in advance.  Baptism forms must be completed prior to scheduling a baptism and are also available at the Welcome Center.

Baptism Class is required only for families preparing for their first baptism at SOTV. Classes are offered every first Thursday of the month (unless it falls on a holiday).

First Communion

The decision of what age to begin taking Communion needs to be made by each family. Many families find that 5th grade is a common starting point for being ready. Shepherd of the Valley recognizes that each child develops uniquely and many are ready to participate in the Lord’s Supper in worship with their family at differing ages, from Pre-K to middle school.

Children accompanied by at least one parent or guardian are required to attend a one-night Communion preparation experience, on one of the dates above. This one-night class (about 75 minutes) is a shared parent/child experience to support readiness for this holy sacrament. There is discussion time, a role-playing skit, tasting of the bread and wine, and prayer, along with the answering of children’s questions.
