Communion Preparation Class
JANUARY DATE IS RESCHEDULED:
Monday, February 11
7:00 - 8:00 pm
First Communion celebrated on Feb 16/17 weekend
The decision of what age children should begin taking Communion needs to be made by each family. Some families find 5th grade is a good starting point for attending a communion preparation class, others allow their children to participate in the Lord’s Supper in preschool. Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church recognizes that families have varied expectations and that children can be ready for communion at differing ages.
Children accompanied by at least one parent or guardian are invited to attend a communion preparation experience on one of the dates below. This one-night class (about 60 minutes) is a shared parent/child experience to support a meaningful communion practice. The class includes a role-playing skit, presentation, discussion time, tasting of the bread and wine, prayer, and answering children’s questions.
Families are then invited to worship at a church service the weekend following the class to participate in the celebration of communion together (see dates below).
