Celebration of Baptism
Shepherd of the Valley (SOTV) celebrates the sacrament of baptism every second weekend of the month during regular worship services, or on third Sundays at 12:15 pm in the Chapel.
Baptism Class is required for families preparing for their first baptism at SOTV. Classes are offered every first Thursday of the month at 7:00 pm (unless it falls on a holiday).
Communion Preparation Classes
The decision of what age children begin taking communion needs to be made by each family. Some families find 5th grade is a good starting point for attending a communion preparation class, others allow their children to participate in the Lord’s Supper in preschool. Shepherd of the Valley recognizes that each child is unique and many are ready for communion with their family at differing ages.
Children accompanied by at least one parent or guardian are invited to attend a communion preparation experience. This one-night class (about 60 minutes - starting at 7:00 pm) is a shared parent/child experience to support a meaningful communion practice. The class includes discussion time, a role-playing skit, tasting of the bread and wine, prayer, presentation, and answering children’s questions.
Families are then invited to worship at a church service the following weekend to participate in the celebration of communion together.
