Making an Impact

Posted: May 21, 2018

In the last couple months, many Connect projects have been happening around SOTV. The congregation has donated items for Easter dinners and baskets. Other members have spent time packing and decorating these dinners and baskets. In addition, volunteers have sewn, tied, and delivered quilts to children in need.

Easter Dinners & Baskets

This Easter, 32 dinners were delivered to families at All Nations Church in Minneapolis, plus 68 baskets delivered to congregation members.

Thank you to everyone who donated a dinner or basket, and made deliveries to share God’s love and care during a difficult time. Thank you also goes to Apple Valley Cub, Lakeville Hy-Vee, Eagan Kowalski’s, and Eagan Byerly’s for their donations of gift cards. SOTV staff, middle school Confirmation youth, Carol Read’s preschool class, MOM SOS, Stacy T., Emily B., Zach G., and Annabelle G. deserve a thank you for their help packing dinners and decorating baskets. Without help, we couldn’t make this impact on our community!

19th Annual Caring Quilts Day

March 24, 2018

  • 40 people sewed and tied quilts
    • 20 ladies tied quilts
    • 20 people sewed (including one 8-year-old boy who sewed all day)
  • In total...
    • 95 quilts were tied
    • 30 kits were sewn
    • 70 quilts were shipped off to Target House (A place where children undergoing long-term cancer treatment at St. Jude Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee can stay with their families free of charge)
    • 20 quilts given for Camp Noah (Our SOTV youth volunteers take quilts to distribute to participants on their mission trip this summer.)

Since August, our Tuesday morning quilting group (Shepherd Quilters) has made and delivered 331 quilts to needy children. Many quilts go to Memphis (St. Jude affiliate), then the remaining quilts go to shelters for children. This year, they are furnishing 50 quilts for youth to take to the children they are ministering to at Camp Noah. Shepherd Quilters take their mission very seriously, praising God for the talented women, for the donations of fabric, and the monetary support they get. Great job Shepherd Quilters!
