Did You Know. . .
1 in 10 Minnesotans experience food insecurity?
13.8% of children in Minnesota don’t have enough food to eat?
We are fortunate to have Our Daily Bread Food Shelf here at Shepherd of the Valley, providing everything needed to get food into the hands of our neighbors. With help from wonderful volunteers, neighborhood grocery stores who donate rescue food, financial donors, and food donations from congregation members, we all work together so others won’t go hungry.
At Shepherd of the Valley, grades 1 - 3 have spent the last six weeks collecting 300+ items for the food shelf, and now they’re passing the baton; it’s your turn!
During Lent, we plan to “Pack the Pews” as part of the Minnesota FoodShare Campaign. The campaign envisions a Minnesota where all residents have access to healthy food and no one struggles with food insecurity. We are working together as a whole church to achieve this goal. The congregation will be collecting non-perishable food, along with Zone 45 and 6th - 8th grade confirmation classes.
Please keep an eye on the display in the narthex to see how close to our goal we are. If we as a church can reach our goal of 15,000 lbs., we will have a Wacky Hat weekend on April 7 - 8. The entire congregation is invited to wear their wacky hats along with the pastors. Let’s celebrate making this goal!
Since we are now a Super Shelf and are trying to offer healthier choices, please consider this when purchasing items for the food shelf. All varieties of food donations are being requested this month. For a list of most needed items, please visit our website at sotv.org/foodshelf. Please put all food donations by the display in the narthex.
Also to note, Our Daily Bread Food Shelf is expanding hours!
Beginning March 7, Our Daily Bread Food Shelf will be open from 11:30 am - 2:30 pm on Wednesdays of each week. This is in addition to being open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12:20 - 6:00 pm. Being open on Wednesdays will allow for nine more appointment times during the week. The food shelf continues to serve around 25 - 30 families each week.
