Pack the Pews in March

Please support Our Daily Bread Food Shelf, operated by SOTV
in partnership with 360 Communities, during the Minnesota FoodShare March Campaign.
In a recent survey of all Dakota County food shelves (including Our Daily Bread at SOTV), nearly all clients expressed the desire to eat healthier by providing more fresh fruits and vegetables for their families. Their families do like fruits and vegetables and they know how to prepare them. Overall, clients would like to see a greater availability of proteins, fresh fruits and vegetables, and dairy products at food shelves.
Our food shelf is fortunate to be able to provide fresh food consistently, and hopes to expand this effort. Each week, families receive selections of two fruits, two vegetables, a dozen eggs, and meat (chicken, ground beef, or hot dogs). We hope to someday offer milk, and even more healthy options.
The major barrier to eating healthier is cost – both for food shelves and families. Over two-thirds of clients say fruits and vegetables cost too much to purchase on their own. In a typical month, the food shelf purchases about $5,000 worth of produce, meat, eggs, and other items from food banks and grocery stores. The food shelf is entirely dependent on your donations to operate and feed our families.

This week's challenge: When shopping, try to pick healthier options such as low sodium or whole wheat vs. white flour
Monetary donations also needed: Write “Our Daily Bread Food Shelf” in the memo line or in the “Misc Description” line when giving online.
