Discover a New Care Opportunity
Sunday, May 1, 6:30 pm
SOTV Community Room

Do you have a heart for those who are facing the challenges of poverty?
Are you interested in seeing our communities become stronger?
Are you willing to share your life learning to encourage others?

UpWorks is a local Christian non-profit organization that envisions communities where relationships are formed and where people are connected with resources and opportunities to improve their lives.  The goal of UpWorks is to be an advocate in assisting underprivileged, underemployed, and unemployed individuals to achieve sustainable, above poverty, full-time employment.  To do this, UpWorks creates a network of Life Advocates, Covenant Non-profits, and Covenant Businesses to support clients in gaining and sustaining livable wage employment.

UpWorks is seeking volunteers from Shepherd of the Valley to serve as Life Advocates.  Life Advocates serve as positive mentors for UpWorks’ clients by providing guidance and care during the first three months of the client’s employment at a Covenant Business.

Life Advocates will:

  • Complete a ½ day training session
  • Commit to meet 1 hour per week for three months with a client gaining employment
  • Share insight with UpWorks staff via email or phone

To learn more about becoming a Life Advocate, please join us at an information session at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 1 in the Community Room at Shepherd of the Valley.  Susan Hewitt, Executive Director of UpWorks, will be presenting information and answering questions.
