2nd Tuesdays & 4th Thursdays, 7:00 - 9:00 pm
Host: Mary Mother of the Church, 3333 Cliff Road, Burnsville
For those who have lost a loved one by suicide, the journey of healing can be lonely, painful, and confusing. Those left behind after a suicide need a place where they can share their experiences with others who really understand, a place where they can talk openly, a place where others will listen without judging.
Suicide Bereavement Support Group is offered the second Tuesday and fourth Thursday of each month, from 7:00 - 9:00 pm in Room 17. All adults who are surviving the loss of a loved one who died by suicide are welcome. There are no fees or registration required.
Leading this group is a facilitator trained by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP), Toni Wetzel, who has lost a loved one by suicide and promotes listening without judging within the group.
A loss by suicide is complicated by overwhelming feelings of guilt and loss. The group provides reassurance that healing is possible. As one group member said, "I find that when I leave the monthly meetings, I am refreshed and feel I've been heard. My burdens that I carry about suicide are lifted after each meeting because it is comforting to be there." For more information, visit SAVE.
Beginning in January Shepherd of the Valley will be host of another community outreach group.
The Suicide Bereavement Group has been meeting in Burnsville for many years providing a safe place for those suffering through suicide loss to share their struggles. The group’s leadership is grateful to partner with Shepherd of the Valley. This group meets the second Monday and the fourth Thursday of each month from 7:00 - 8:30 pm, offering a facilitated discussion for suicide ‘survivors’ to talk through their difficult journey. The group is open to anyone that is caught in the struggle that follows the suicide death of their loved ones.
