The Year of Send

long bannerweb2.png

Keeping true to our Vision at Shepherd of the Valley, in the past two years, we have focused on being Welcomed  into the fellowship of Christ, and have been Transformed  by his Spirit and Word. We now focus on our mission and opportunity to be Sent  to love and serve others.

“Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send?” And “Who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I, send me!”  Isaiah 6:8

Welcome to the Year of Send!

Discover and Use Your Spiritual Gifts

Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of services, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who activates all of them in everyone. To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.”

1 Corinthians 12:4-7

God has given each one of us a set of spiritual gifts that help us love and serve others.  Want to find out how God has gifted you?  Take the ELCA Spiritual Assessment and then let us help you Get Connected to put those gifts to use!

  3. Get Connected - let us know your spiritual gifts, and we’ll contact you with opportunities to use your gifts in both the community and our congregation.

All Church Serve Together

Sunday, November 19
3:00 – 5:00 pm
Learn more & sign up

Great activity for families and people of all ages! Short education on two non-profits: The Drawer and Bundles of Love. Then on-site services projects include: stuffing and sewing toys; re-packaging diapers; counting, sorting, and tying sock and underwear bundles; color quilt blocks that will become blankets; tour the food shelf, and more.

Leading up to the All Church Serve Together event, we are collecting new socks and underwear for men, women, and children. All styles and types are needed. Buy what you would get for you and your family. Please put your donations in the designated box in the narthex.

Bright idea - plan to attend 5:00 pm Breaking Bread worship when you are done!

Emergency Shelter in Dakota County:

Serve dinner, become a shelter aid, donate shelter supplies, or offer financial support

We are working with Matrix Housing Services and others in our county to provide emergency temporary shelter from November through March. The temporary shelter will rotate among secure locations, house up to 50 single adults each night, and include dinner and some emergency supplies.

We need your help! Please prayerfully consider how you might help.

To sign up to volunteer or to learn more information, visit SOTV.org/shelter.

Tell us How YOU are Putting Feet to YOUR Faith

In-person:  Visit the "Putting Feet to our Faith" display in the narthex and fill out a footprint sticker. Tell us how you are loving, serving, and caring for others to build an inspiring wall of faith-in-action stories. Also, t-shirts with the Send theme will be available for purchase after services. These shirts can be worn anytime, but particularly when involved in service activities.

On-line: Tell us your story!
