Lent 2022: Full to the Brim – God’s promise of abundant and expansive grace

You are invited into a radically different Lent and life: to be authentically who you are, to counter scarcity and injustice at every turn, to pour out even more grace wherever it is needed. When we are filled to the brim with God’s love, that love spills over. It reaches beyond ourselves. This Lent, let us trust – fully – that we belong to God. Let us increase our capacity to receive and give grace. Let us discover the expansive life God dreams for us.

Parents, use your own discretion when it comes to your kids. If content is rated for certain ages then we will indicate that. Enjoy!

Pause, light a candle, & take 15 minutes for caring conversation and prayer.

Share: What were your high and low points today?
Read: Psalm 23:5; “You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.”
Reflect: Can you think of a time when God gave you even more than what you needed—a situation when your cup overflowed with God’s abundant goodness and mercy? Explain.
Pray: Dear God, you fill us to overflowing with your grace and love. Help us to trust you to provide all that we need—and more—and to be generous in sharing your grace and love with others. Amen.
Bless: Trace a cross on each other’s shoulder, hand, or head and say “[Name], you are a beloved child of God.”

Going Deeper

  • Ash Wednesday: Bring all that you are into this Lenten journey. Use the Wellness Assessment Tool to reflect on your whole self—physical, spiritual, social, etc.—and what it looks like for you to be filled to overflowing with God’s love.
  • Week 1: Live fully—even in the desert. Read the story of Jesus in the desert, and create your own desert scene!
  • Week 2: Rest under God’s wing. Build a cozy fort and read stories that remind us we are safe with God.
  • Week 3: Know that you are worthy. Read the parable of the fig tree, and story of a little girl whose gifts were different and surprising and wonderful! Make a tree to remember that you have unique gifts, too.
  • Week 4: Receive prodigal grace. God’s grace is bold, beautiful, even—some might say—reckless! Create a house to remind you that God always invites us home, no matter what.
  • Week 5: Commit brazen acts of beauty. You can respond to God’s overflowing love with love—how will you bring joy and beauty into the world?
