By Pastor Duane Paetznick (2017)
We are looking for people from our congregation who are willing to help show care to others. There are a couple of very specific things you can do to show your friendliness.
One possibility for you is that you can be a Friendly Phone Caller (for one night only). We hope to find 30 people willing to come to SOTV on Tuesday night, February 7 from 6:30 – 9:00 pm to call other members of our congregation on our phones. This is simply a phone call to reach out to others. There’s no hidden agenda to these calls. No one will be asking for money. It’s just a chance to visit and find out how others in our congregation are doing.
Another “friendly” thing you might be interested in doing is becoming a Friendly Visitor. Friendly Visitors are people from SOTV who connect to others in the congregation through actual visits to their homes. These visits happen on a regular basis, sometimes monthly. This is a ministry that we have been doing at SOTV for a number of years. But we’d like to re-ignite it in the next few months. There’s a meeting scheduled for veteran and potential new Friendly Visitors on Saturday, January 28 from 9:00-11:30 am, where you can find out more about this vital ministry.
Why are we doing these things? Because we are called to be a community ofpeople that care for each other. We realize that we often make an effort to call and visit people when we are asking for something – like a pledge. Those calls and visits are important. But we should be checking in with people at other times too.
