During Advent, our 2021 Sunday Forum will focus on the prophetic book of Isaiah! Our guest speaker will be Dr. A. Joseph Everson, who is the author of a new commentary on Isaiah, entitled The Vision of the Prophet Isaiah: Hope in a War Weary World. This book will be available for purchase during the first week of forum for $20.
Written for lay people, the study focuses on the final form of the scroll of Isaiah from the time when it was edited and set apart as ‘canon’ by Jewish scholars at about 400 BCE. Commenting on the work, Scott Tunseth, General Editor of Fortress Press, has written: “Joe Everson’s scholarship and experience as a teacher of Scripture are on display in his new study of the book of Isaiah. This ‘synchronic’ reading, as he describes it, provides reliable historical, theological, and literary perspectives on the full book of Isaiah. This commentary is a clear and accessible guide for Bible students and curious readers alike.” Dr. Everson is an emeritus professor of religion from California Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks, CA. He has also taught at Luther College and St John’s University, and was a pastor at Hope Lutheran Church in St Paul.
