What to Expect
Christian Nationalism, Violent Masculinity, and How to Build Hope + Resilience
Join pastor, author, and journalist Angela Denker for a thoughtful and empathetic look at how American culture and churches have been shaped by the “radicalization of boyhood” and the rise of Christian Nationalism — an ideology which replaces the genuine worship of God with worship of a particular vision of America, and which supports a violent takeover of government and the imposition of fundamentalist Christian beliefs on all people. Drawing on her experience of listening to Evangelical Christian voters and young men across the country, Denker will explore how we got here — and how people of faith can build hope and resilience. A Q&A session and book signing will follow the presentation.
Details
The cost is $10 per person. A light continental breakfast is included in the cost. We don’t want the cost to keep anyone from participating — financial support is available and can be selected when you register.
Registration will close at noon on October 8. Walk-ins will be accepted.
Books will be available for purchase on-site through local Lakeville shop, Niche Books.
About Angela Denker
Rev. Angela Denker is an award-winning author, ELCA Lutheran pastor, and veteran journalist. Her first book, Red State Christians, was the 2019 Silver Foreword Indies award-winner for political and social sciences. Her second book, Disciples of White Jesus: The Radicalization of American Boyhood, came out on March, 25, 2025. She is a former columnist for the Minnesota Star Tribune and has written for many publications, including Sports Illustrated, the Washington Post, and FORTUNE magazine, and has appeared on CNN, BBC, SkyNews, and NPR to share her research on politics and Christian Nationalism.
Pastor Angela lives with her husband, Ben, and two sons in Minneapolis, where she is a sought-after speaker on Christian Nationalism and its theological and cultural roots. She also serves Lake Nokomis Lutheran Church in Minneapolis as Pastor of Visitation and Public Theology.
