What to Expect
In the upcoming Sunday Forum on March 7, Kristin Anderson will discuss Muskego: One of the earliest Norwegian-American churches built, and the oldest one still standing. The Muskego Church has a fascinating history. Participants can expect to learn about its three locations and multiple uses, from a place of worship to a farm building to a historic site commemorating Norwegian-American immigrants and their religious life.
On March 14, Anderson will cover Leonardo's Last Supper. Widely known but only partly understood, Leonardo’s Last Supper rivals his Mona Lisa as one of the most famous paintings in western art. Leonardo altered the then-familiar formula for images of the Last Supper to create a new standard for depictions of this story. In this presentation, participants will look closely at the painting’s setting, its history, and its many intriguing details.
About the Speaker
Kristin Anderson is a Professor Emerita of Art & Design at Augsburg University in Minneapolis. Her Augsburg courses included art history and architectural history surveys as well as more specialized offerings such as American Art, Scandinavian Art, and Women and Art. She also taught a popular course, The Designed Environment, about the architectural and urban history of the Twin Cities. The class met at a different location for each session, bringing students face-to-face with the buildings and spaces they studied.
A graduate of Oberlin College (A. B.), Kristin has master's degrees in art history (University of Minnesota) and church history (Luther Seminary) as well as a PhD in American Art, Architecture, and Popular Culture from the University of Minnesota. She meets the Secretary of the Interior’s Professional Qualification Standards in architectural history.
