Joyful Noise (Square)

Grandparent Tiny Try-It-Out: Joyful Noise

Easter and springtime are full of God’s gifts to be grateful for – including the hope of the resurrection and signs of new life in the world around us. And we can make music to celebrate!

Ideas for Grandparents

Consider these ideas for Joyful Noise that you can incorporate into your own unique circumstances:

  • As a regular caregiver for little ones: Go on a Sound Scavenger Hunt and listen for all of God’s Creation to sing their special “songs.” As you wander, pause and cup your hands around the back of your ear to look like the ears of a deer – notice that sounds get louder! Which sounds are from nature? Which are not? What other sounds do you hear that aren’t on the sheet?
  • With older grandkids: Share the link to Anita Collins’s TED Ed lesson about how playing an instrument causes fireworks in the brain, the equivalent of a full-brain workout. It’s cool to know that we praise God with our whole selves when we “make a joyful noise.”
  • At a family gathering: Put together a family jam band of DIY instruments! Find instructions for 20 different musical instruments you can make with items from nature, the recycling bin, or around the house.

How will you make a Joyful Noise with those you love?
