After Grade 5, students are invited to Confirmation, a four-year program for youth in Grades 6-9.
Confirmation leads to the Rite of Confirmation service in the fall of a student’s tenth grade year; or, at the time when a student feels most ready to confirm his or her faith in God. Confirmation is meant to help students experience the Welcome, Transformation, and Sending of Jesus Christ through learning about the Bible, as well as lifelong worship habits and faith practices.
Participating in a small group that meets regularly is also a key piece of Confirmation. Small groups, which Shepherd of the Valley coordinates for each registered student, encourage healthy relationships and create a strong sense of belonging, ensuring that each student is known and cared for by adults and peers in faith-based relationships of trust.
Confirmation is designed to help students name and grow their unique, God-given gifts, with the invitation to use those gifts for service in the church and in the world. At your child’s baptism, you said, “Yes, God!” on behalf of your child, welcoming them into the body of Christ forever. Confirmation is the opportunity for your child to grow, question, and explore so he or she may make the decision to take ownership of his/her faith and continue to say, “Yes, God!”
Confirmation runs September-April, with registration beginning in June. New students are welcome to join at any time throughout the year or at any point in Grades 6-9.
We also have many opportunities for fellowship and service throughout the year for Grades 6-12. During the summer, youth are invited to step out into the world and witness God already at work through summer trips and camps. We invite adults to join us and serve alongside youth as Christ’s hands and feet in the world. It is an amazing experience!
