"Why Where We Live Matters" with Mikeya Griffin

"Why Where We Live Matters"

With Mikeya Griffin, president and CEO of Rondo Community Land Trust and a fourth-generation member of the Rondo community in Saint Paul.

What to Expect

In this Sunday Forum session, Mikeya Griffin will introduce the Community Land Trust (CLT) model and explore its deep roots in the civil rights movement. Drawing from the history of Rondo and the lived experience of the Rondo community, she will share how the CLT emerged as tools for economic self-determination, land stewardship, and long-term stability for Black communities.

Mikeya will connect the national origins of community land trusts to the local work happening in Rondo today, highlighting how shared ownership of land, housing, and commercial space continues to shape opportunity, preserve culture, and strengthen neighborhoods across generations. The presentation offers both historical context and practical insight into why CLT remains a powerful model for communities seeking stability and a future rooted in place.
